YouTube streamer Guy Beahm aka Dr. Disrespect, who has 4.7 million subscribers, has had his channel shut down by the platform. After it was revealed that Dr Disrespect’s 2020 Twitch ban was due to inappropriate messages he sent to an underage person through Twitch’s whisper feature, the new blow came from YouTube.
YouTube suspends monetization of Dr Disrespect’s channel
A YouTube spokesperson released a statement to IGN confirming the company’s decision: “Following serious allegations against the creator, we have suspended Dr Disrespect’s channel from the YouTube Partner Program. This action means the channel will no longer be able to monetize on YouTube.”
Previously, Turtle Beach ended its partnership with Dr Disrespect, who was also kicked out of Midnight Society, the game studio he co-founded in 2021. Although Dr Disrespect initially denied reports of wrongdoing, he later admitted to texting with a minor. However, the broadcaster emphasized that he did nothing illegal.
“Were there Twitch whisper messages with a minor in 2017? The answer is yes. Were there real intentions behind those messages, the answer is absolutely not. They were casual, back and forth conversations, sometimes leaning too far in the direction of being inappropriate, but nothing more. Nothing illegal happened, no pictures were shared, no crimes were committed, I have never even met this person,” Dr Disrespect wrote.
Although Dr Disrespect still has a large number of subscribers on YouTube, his inability to use the platform to make money may force him to look for a new publishing home, if he continues to do so. What do you think? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
